Lesson : Homophobia: Respecting All Our Differences

Overview

This lesson takes the form of an animated story involving Go-Givers character Anna who is being called ‘gay’ because she plays football and doesn’t like wearing dresses. The story addresses the issue of homophobic bullying, and explores different kinds of families. This lesson has been approved by the Stonewall education team.

Learning Activities:

  • Conducting a bullying survey 
  • Looking at words ‘with a sting in their tail’
  • Identifying what is unique about each of us

Assembly Plan

The lesson includes an assembly about diversity based around a Jewish parable that explores the idea of individuality and making choices. The children investigate some stereotypes and consider how everyone is unique and can choose who they want to be.
