Greater London Make a Difference Challenge
February - July 2019
The project takes place over the spring and summer term and involves the following stages:
TEACHER TRAINING DAY - WEDNESDAY 13TH FEBRUARY - 110 FETTER LANE, CITY OF LONDON
Participating teachers attend a full day's training session to equip them with tools and activities to scaffold the project and facilitate children's learning.
CHILDREN CHOOSE THEIR CAUSE
Back in school, teachers introduce the project and facilitate the decision-making process as children choose the cause or issue they wish to champion. The project process begins being documented through a scrapbook.
CHILDREN RESEARCH THEIR TOPIC
They gather views of the local community and identify the areas where they can contribute, making links with relevant organisations. Visits may take place or visitors may be invited into school to help children better understand the issue.
CHILDREN TAKE ACTION TO 'MAKE A DIFFERENCE'
This could be by raising awareness, raising money or through direct action; or through a combination of all three!
CELEBRATION EVENT - JULY (DATE & VENUE TBC)
A representative group of children from each school make a presentation to showcase their project at an event to celebrate achievements.
We charge a small participation fee of £160 for taking part in the project. This covers the cost of the teacher training day, resources and materials provided to schools, ongoing support to teachers during the project and the Celebration Event.
