My Red Envelope
I've been waiting the whole week to open a special present from my Grandma, which she gave me on the first day of Chinese New Year. It's a little red envelope, with money inside. In the Chinese tradition, red is a really lucky colour. Kids all over the world who celebrate Chinese New Year are given little red envelopes from older members of their family, to bring them good luck.
I'm not opening mine yet because we believe that to receive good fortune for the year, we should sleep with our envelope tucked underneath our pillow for seven nights. Have you ever been given a present that you are not allowed to open straight away? It's exciting and frustrating at the same time, don't you think?!
Each night, when I lay my head on my pillow, I think of all the good things that I wish this year to bring. I want everyone in my family to keep healthy, especially my Grandma. She's getting older and needs lots of rest these days. I want have lots of crazy adventures with my Go-Givers friend. I also wish for my little twin brothers to stop squabbling all the time, which drives Mum mad! As for me, well...I want something exciting to happen. Maybe, just maybe, this year I will get one step closer to my dream of being a world-famous gymnast!
What are your Chinese New Year wishes?
