Field Trip to the British Museum

She said that we would go again on another day, but it’s not the same! Field trips are special, because I get to go out of school for the day with my friends.

Today we went to the British Museum! We saw a ton of things! Have you ever heard of the Rosetta Stone? It is one of the most important objects in the British museum - it is pretty much the dictionary in understanding ancient Egyptian words. Many Egyptians don’t remember their “original” language, because it has changed so much. However, the stone made it possible to reread and understand the ancient texts! How cool is that?
If in a thousand years, we don’t speak English anymore, would the dictionary be put on display at the British museum?
Pete looking at the Rosetta Stone
They had also real mummies in the museum. That’s kind of strange, if you think about it. Imagine if they dug up coffins from the graveyard and put them on display! We saw this ancient mummy, who had been attacked thousands of years ago. He has been dead for over five thousand years. You can’t see his face properly, but you can see his skin, bones and everything! I got goosebumps when I saw it, but in a good way. Maybe I could work in the British Museum when I’m older!
