British Values Training

What are British Values and how are primary school teachers expected to promote them? What is OFSTED looking for? How can schools demonstrate that they are actively promoting 'fundamental British Values' and placing SMSC development 'at the heart of the school's work'?

Our full day's course will provide an opportunity to explore the British Values requirement and learn about ways that schools can foster inclusive understandings of Britishness that embrace diversity and become familiar with resources developed by Citizenship Foundation.

British Values and Prevent within the context of SMSC

How can schools demonstrate that they are actively promoting Fundamental British Values and placing Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development (SMSC) ‘at the heart of the school’s work?’

Our full day’s course will provide an opportunity to explore the British Values requirement, and gain an understanding of the Prevent Duty with experienced trainers in their fields. It will develop the skills and confidence to enable teachers to meet their obligations while embracing diversity and promoting children’s critical thinking and discussion.
Trainer Profiles

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • Broaden their understanding of the importance of SMSC development
  • Clarify Ofsted expectations
  • Reflect on the contribution of SMSC and British Values to learning and school improvement
  • Develop a clear understanding of how to ensure appropriate school policies and procedures relating to the Prevent Duty
  • Become familiar with the Go-Givers resources developed by the Citizenship Foundation
  • Share and discuss good practice
  • Plan for improvements in their own school
