My name is Mitali, I am 6 years old.
My Grandma usually looks after me. Like the rest of my family, I’m a Hindu. Mitali is a Hindu name which means 'friend'.
Sometimes I think I’m too chubby and sometimes I don't sleep well because I worry about being bullied.
I like to show off my Indian dancing, especially at parties with my cousins.
I know that New Year is meant to be in January. But I feel like the real start of the year is in September, after summer holidays. Everything is new. New teacher, new classroom, even my pencil case smells new! My friends also seem different after the long holiday.
The day before my first day back at school, I woke up feeling great!
When I was eating breakfast, Dad said he wanted me to work really hard to improve my spelling this year. I had forgotten how much I hated spelling. I'm not very good at it and I always make loads of mistakes.
All those bad memories came flooding back.
That afternoon I had a funny feeling in my tummy. I couldn't explain it. Sometimes I find it hard to talk about the way I feel.
I was playing a game on my computer and kept making silly mistakes. Every time I made a mistake I shouted at the screen. I was getting more and more annoyed at myself and was shouting louder and louder. I didn't know why I felt so angry.
Grandma heard me shouting. She rushed into my bedroom and asked what was wrong. I just said that everything was ok cos that's so much easier than finding the right words to explain. I hope the feeling will just go away.
Do you find it hard to talk about how you feel?
Grandma already knew what was up, though.
She asked if I was worried about school. I nodded.
The start of school is a new beginning. New beginnings can be scary because we don't know what will happen.
But Grandma reminded me they are exciting too. She said it's more than just spelling and maths.
Who knows what might happen this year? You might make a new friend. You might get a new high score on a game. You might even try something new you've never done before.
What goals do you have for this year?
