My name is Digby, I’m Anna's pet.
Anna rescued me when I was a stray. I have to visit the vet a lot  but I don’t mind because he’s really nice and I get to see lots of other pets at the surgery.
I love running around outside with Anna and I’m really good at doing tricks with a small red ball.
Do You Watch the News?: Part 1

When I was on the train last week with Anna and Anna’s Mum, I overheard two men talking about someone called Margaret Thatcher. They were very serious so I knew she must be important!

They talked about how she had died recently. I also heard big words like privatisation, unions and the Falkland Islands. I didn’t understand everything but I love new words and wanted to find out what they meant. Most of all I wanted to find out: who was Margaret Thatcher?

Anna’s Mum told us that Margaret Thatcher was the first female prime minister of the UK. She was prime minister from 1979 to 1990. Before Anna or I was even born!

Anna’s Mum said that Margaret Thatcher was an important person in history. She was even given the title ‘Baroness’. Baroness Thatcher made lots of changes to our country. Lots of people say she was a good leader and a strong person but others worried that the changes she led made life difficult for lots of people.

Anna’s Mum said there are news websites and newspapers that are made just for children so we can find out what is happening in the world.

Do you ever watch the news or read newspapers for children? Anna said she thought it was important to watch the news because we need to know about the things that are happening around us. She said watching the news sometimes made her sad. Does it ever make you sad?

Anna also said that if she knows about problems in the world, she is more likely to be able to help. What do you think?

I’m helping Anna on her fact finding mission. Check out my next blog to see what we found out about Margaret Thatcher!
