My name is Anna, I am 6 years old.
My favourite things to do are running around outside, climbing trees and playing football. Some people think I’m a tomboy, but I don’t mind! I love adventures and I’m and not afraid of anything (except the dark).
My very best friend is my pet mouse Digby.
I live with Mum. Dad has left home.

Fun Outside

The summer term is my favourite! I get to spend more time outside, playing sports and learning about nature. I love being outside!

Even numeracy lessons are more fun outside. Instead of using a number line, my teacher gets us to use ourselves as counters on the playground. Last summer I sometimes had literacy outside as well. It felt good to sit on the grass in the sunshine and listen to a story. Do you ever have lessons outside?

It’s my class’s turn to do Forest School. Do you have this at your school? In Forest School we learn about animals, plants and how to play safely without damaging nature. Some of the bigger children told me we might even have a fire and toast marshmallows! It sounds ace!. A special lady called Nicola comes to teach Forest School. Lots of adults from school join us too. Some Mums and Dads also come along. …My mum says she will come if she can find the time.

I’m sure Digby will love Forest School. I don’t normally take him to school, but I think he might like the woods.  I am a bit worried though, in case he runs off and I can’t find him.  The woods are so far away from school. I think it would be better if we had woods nearer to us. There is a bit of  grass on the playground that has some bushes, but it’s not the same.

Mum’s friend Nell told me about Earth Day. It’s on the 22nd of April. On Earth Day people do things to help nature. Nell said she’ll help me talk to school about planting some trees in the playground so one day we can have our own little wood for Forest School. That would be awesome! We could run straight from our classroom into the wood!

You can visit the Earth Day website to find out more: Earth Day 2013 - Earth Day Network. Maybe you could do something at your school too?  Let me know what you get up to.
