What is Go-Givers?

Go Givers is a leading national programme funded by the Cabinet Office to develop caring, concerned citizens with the confidence and skills to make a difference to their communities, both local and global.

Go Givers is the Citizenship Foundation’s flagship programme for primary schools. The Citizenship Foundation is an independent educational charity which aims to empower individuals to engage in the wider community through education about the law, democracy and society.

Go-Givers extends the SEAL and Healthy Schools programmes into the wider context of society. It addresses many of the requirements of the DSCSF 'Guidance to Promote Community Cohesion' and deals with important issues raised in the UNICEF Commission on the Rights of the Child.

Who is it For?

The innovative Go-Givers website has three sections - for teachers, parents and children.

Go Givers targets Primary and Middle School children (aged 5 to 14).

It contains a varied menu of free, engaging, and interactive citizenship-rich cross-curricular resources. They have been developed in the belief that our children's education should have its basis in a philosophy of personal responsibility, and concern for the world we live in.

Go Givers can make a positive impact on all of us and our communities. See how by visiting Aims and Objectives.

Are you a teacher?

‘I came across your site and have been singing praises to all and sundry ever since! You have a fantastic range of resources which are a godsend for busy teachers.’ - T.L, Class Teacher, Brighton

The downloadable learning resources in the Teachers’ section include lively animated modules tackling issues ranging from diversity to sustainability. Register for access to a varied menu of free cross-curricular options to develop children’s knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Go Givers modules of work are fully referenced to the National Curriculum (KS1 & 2). They can be used for whole class, individual or group teaching and consist of thought-provoking presentations for use on the interactive whiteboard together with assembly plans and suggestions for learning activities which encourage pupil involvement. Additionally the site includes a number of interactive activities and games, and bespoke web tools.

Visit the Curriculum Planner to see how Go Givers links to national educational objectives.

Are you a young person who wants to make a difference?

“This is the coolest site I’ve ever been on”
-Go Givers Kids’ Zone user

There’s a section just for you! The animated Kids’ Zone features games, the ‘Noproblemo show’, a Make-Your-Own-Comic Strip activity, a Go-Givers song (with karaoke version), an active citizens’ toolkit, and much, much more! You will be introduced to important social issues by some new friends: the Go Givers cartoon characters.

What do we mean by ‘citizenship education’?

Citizenship is the process of helping people learn how to become active, informed and responsible citizens. Learn more here.

Are you a parent or guardian?

It takes a village to raise a child – in other words all of us - to raise socially and morally responsible citizens. Families can use the Parents’ section to promote giving at home, and find articles about parenting and citizenship.

How does Go Givers make a difference?

Go Givers provides the tools – the children make the difference! There are many different ways to use Go Givers learning resources. Some schools, like Kensington Primary in Newham, take part in the Go Givers Make a Difference Challenge:

Building Bridges across the Community at Sibley Grove

Children in Year 5 surveyed their community and decided to campaign for improvements to a local bridge. They worked with an architect and a graffiti artist to develop their ideas, then lobbied their local council and MP, who came to visit their school. The result is a safer, cleaner, and more beautiful bridge, and a community that knows that no matter what age they are, kids can bridge the gaps!

A Cross-Curricular Approach to Caring

At St. Joseph’s primary school in Berkshire, PSHCE and EAL coordinator Tina Allen uses Go Givers learning resources in a cross-curricular fashion to promote values of diversity and cohesion in all year groups and all subjects. She says:

“The Go Givers materials do not shy away from covering what can be seen as controversial social issues but in delivering the lessons, thanks to the materials, I knew I did not run the risk of offending anyone.”
