Generosity towards others enhances the wellbeing of both the giver and the beneficiary.
That's the principle behind Go-Givers ‘Our Pledge’. It is a campaign to encourage schools, parents and children to think about what they can do to help others, and make a pledge to carry it through.
'Our Pledge' links to what your children are learning from the 'Go-Givers' website at school. It aims to support parents in their discussions with their children about what it means to be an active and informed citizen.
We have hundreds of suggestions of ways to help others. Simply click here to see what you could do. It's really easy. Watch your pledge appear in the Pledge Ticker above!
What is 'Go-Givers'?
'Go-Givers' is a project to help schools introduce pupils to citizenship, with a particular focus on the concept of charitable giving. It contains over 70 lessons, activities and stories to help children understand their place in the community and the wider world. It tackles issues such as relationships, rights and responsibilities, justice and fairness; and prepares children for their role as active citizens.
Think of 'Our Pledge' as the homework section of ‘Go-Givers’. It enables parents and children to talk about what being an active and informed citizen means to them. Pupils are invited to write their pledges on a Pledge Leaf, and take it in to school to add to the class Pledge Tree.
If your child has come home with a Pledge Leaflet, please take some time to discuss the different ways you can help others.
